Tide’s story begins in the 1930s, when a group of P&G scientists were quietly working on a mysterious cleaning agent they believed had great potential as a heavy-duty synthetic detergent. Behind closed doors, it was known as Product X.

But after 200,000 hours of slow, painstaking tests to get the formula right, they couldn’t make it work. One by one, all of the scientists were reassigned to other projects, and were instructed to abandon their heavy-duty detergent research. more...

Seven years after Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of New Orleans, Hurricane Isaac made landfall in Louisiana.  Nearly 700,000 homes and businesses in Louisiana and Mississippi were without power late Wednesday, and Isaac continues to devastate the New Orleans area. Procter & Gamble, a Worldwide Olympic Partner and maker of brands like Gillette®, Pampers®, Pantene® and Duracell®, celebrated the end of the London 2012 Olympic Games last week after receiving more than 70,000 visitors to the P&G Family Home, which served Olympians their moms, families and friends for the duration of The Olympics.

A massive clean-up is under way in the Philippines after floods swept through the capital of Manila and nearby provinces after 12 days of monsoon rains, compounded by a typhoon and tropical storms. Millions were affected by the flooding, and hundreds of thousands of people are still displaced and without power. 

P&G Philippines is responding with a “Rebuild Philippines” program to support flood victims and help them rebuild their homes and livelihoods.

In the past week, there have been numerous disasters including wildfires in the Western U.S. and violent storms impacting several Midwestern and Eastern states. Hundreds of people have lost their homes in Colorado and New Mexico and many are still struggling across the East having no electricity in the mist of record high temperatures. P&G has been working closely with our disaster relief partners such as the American Red Cross to see how we could help.
